DCSF Exemption Consultation Letter
admin December 11th, 2007
On 10th December 2007, Wynstones School sent a detailed letter to DCSF as a late response to the exemption consultation that closed earlier in the year.
Our letter sets out detailed legal arguments for the need for the exemption process to provide for exemptions for schools that will not be able to meet the EYFS learning and development goals, implement the full education programme, or perform the assessments - as is the case for any Early Years setting that follows the Steiner Waldorf curriculum or similar practices.
We included detailed information about the irreconcilable clashes between EYFS and the Steiner Waldorf curriculum, and signed parent consultation forms from every parent with a child in Kindergarten at Wynstones - unanimously indicating that parents want the school to be exempt from the parts of EYFS that are not compatible with the educational philosophy.
It would help all schools if you can write to DCSF in support this letter. Below are files relating to the letter, including the letter itself and supporting documents.
- The letter Wynstones sent to DCSF (10th Dec 2007)
- The letter writing guidelines given to parents to help with writing to DCSF in support of Wynstones’ letter
- The document setting out the conflicts between EYFS and the Steiner Waldorf curriculum
- The letter given to parents with form to complete indicating their preference for exemption from the various parts of EYFS (MS Word document - you will need to edit this to adapt it to your school)
